The National Museum of the American Indian

The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) was formed by an Act of Congress in 1989. The Smithsonian museum is dedicated to educating the public on the life and culture of the Native Americans throughout the Western Hemisphere.

The NMAI enhances our understanding of the Native peoples from Alaska to South America – and not only a historical perspective but also a contemporary view of Native American lives today. The museum offers more than 800,000 artifacts and 125,000 photographic images.

The Mall Museum is open Daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm except for December 25.
