The National Museum of the American Indian and National Museum of American History celebrate the return of the ancestors with their annual Dia de los Muertos program. This colorful celebration of life includes food demonstrations by the museum’s Mitsitam Cafe’s executive chef Richard Hetzler. Cultural presentations include performances by La Danza de los Tecuanes, demonstrations of papel picado (cut paper) with Tlisza Jaurique (Mexica/Yaqui/Basque/Xicana), and demonstrations of the kites that accompany the Guatemalan celebration of the ancestors with Evelyn Orantes (Guatemalan Maya). Hands-on activities include painting your own calavera (plaster skulls) and making papel picado. The whole family is invited to this family reunion!
